Good news for reality TV fans as Big Brother is set to be on our television screens until 2010.

Channel 4 confirmed today that it has commissioned a three-year deal for the programme with its producers, Endemol, ensuring that the annual scenes of hysteria, limelight hogging and nonsense from C-list celebrity wannabes will not be leaving us any time soon.

Angela Jain, Channel 4 commissioning editor, said: "Channel 4 is the spiritual home of Big Brother. It remains the ultimate reality format and continues to deliver dramatic, innovative viewing as one of the UK's most talked about television programmes."

This year's show saw Pete Bennett being named as the winner, taking home £100,000 and a pretty much definite guarantee of magazine deals and TV spin-off shows.

Despite some claims that the show is low brow rubbish, it continues to pull in high viewing figures.

This summer's final, the seventh in the show's history, attracted 8.2 million viewers a 45.6 per cent share of those viewing television at the time.
