Bill Maher's Obama Donation Amounts To $1 Million
The comedian Bill Maher has donated $1million to a pro- President Obama's Priorities USA Action campaign. He made the announcement at the end of his hour long special, CrazyStupidPolitics, which streamed live on Yahoo on Thursday(February 23, 2012), saying "I would like tonight to announce a donation to the Obama super PAC, which has the very unfortunate tongue-twister name Priority [sic] USA Action. I know, it was named by Borat. But tonight, I would like to give that PAC one million dollars."
Maher told viewers that he felt an Obama victory over any of the Republican candidates would be "worth a million dollars," saying that the donation was "the wisest investment I think I could make," before encouraging other wealthy people to do the same. The pledged money was displayed in the form of an oversized cheque and, according to LA Times, represents a significant boost to the pro-Obama AC, which raised just $59,000 in January. President Obama recently boosted his popularity by taking part in a White House blues jam session. The event occurred as part of a TV programme being filmed for Black History Month and saw Obama handed a microphone by Mick Jagger and sing along to a blues number with Bb King and Jeff Beck among others
The 56 year-old comedian Bill Maher was born in New York City. He began his career as a stand-up comedian and thanks to Steve Allen, started to make appearances on David Letterman and Johnny Carson's shows. He is best known now for the HBO show 'Real Time with Bill Maher.'
