Bill Nighy is in talks to join the cast of 'Total Recall'.

The 'Love Actually' star will take on the role of Quatto, the leader of the resistance in the remake of the Arnold Schwarzenegger starring 1990 sci-fi thriller which will see Colin Farrell take on the lead role of factory worker Doug Quaid, who believes he is a spy embroiled in the conflict between the nation states of Euromerica and New Shanghai.

Director Len Wiseman has also lined up Kate Beckinsale and Jessica Biel to play Doug's wife Lori and a woman who helps him fight the resistance while Bryan Cranston will play villain Vilos Cohaagen and Ethan Hawke has a Cameo.

James Vanderbilt and Mark Bomback are writing The Script with shooting to take place in Canada.

The original film tells the story of Douglas, a construction worker who thinks he's a secret agent, but the new version will be closer to the book it was based on 'We Can Remember It for You Wholesale' by Philip K. Dick.

Producer Neal Moritz said: "It's closer to the book, the big different is we don't go to space. Instead of it being a spaceship that takes us to another planet, there's something that takes us from one side of the plane to another that's really interesting."
