Black Sabbath played their first show since reforming in Birmingham this Saturday (19.05.12).

The reformed heavy metal group - vocalist Ozzy Osbourne, guitarist Tony Iommi and bass player Geezer Butler - played in Birmingham, middle England, for the first time in 13 years at the city's O2 Academy venue.

The band - not joined by original drummer Bill Ward, who has opted out of the reunion after failing to agree a contract - were given a huge welcome, in particular Tony, who is currently battling cancer.

The band's set lasted over two hours and drew mainly from the bands first five albums - which included Ozzy as vocalist -including 'War Pigs', 'Nib', 'Iron Man', 'Sabbath Bloody Sabbath' and classic 'Paranoid', which closed the set.

After the show, Geezer paid tribute to fans and Tony, writing on his website: ''Thank you, thank you, thank you Birmingham. Best fans ever- you brought out the best in us. It was a privilege playing for you tonight. Tony was a hero - you were the best medicine he has had. Proud to be a Brummie.''

The band played with drummer Tommy Clufetos who is filling in for the absent Bill Ward. Proceeds from the show will be donated to Help for Heroes. The band will also play Download festival on June 10th and Lollapalooza festival in the US, which takes place between August 3 and 5. They are also working on their first studio album with Ozzy back in the band in 33 years.
