Bob Dylan Threatens Action Over Factory Girl

Bob Dylan is attempting to prevent the release of Sienna Miller's latest film, Factory Girl.

The legendary singer claims that a character in the film represents him and is defamatory as it suggests that he was responsible for the death of Edie Sedgwick, played by Sienna.

Factory Girl charts the life of Sedgwick, who was Andy Warhol's Muse and committed suicide in 1971, apparently after being jilted by a lover.

Although the name of the character in dispute is Danny Quinn, he is thought to be a fusion of Dylan, Mick Jagger and Jim Morrison.

And Quinn, played by Hayden Christensen, wears a flat cap and a harmonica brace as he performs which are synonymous with Dylan.

Dylan's lawyer Orin Synder has reportedly told the film's makers: "You appear to be labouring under the misunderstanding that merely changing the name of a character or making him a purported fictional composite will immunise you from suit.

"That is not so. Even though Mr Dylan's name is not used, the portrayal remains both defamatory and a violation of Mr Dylan's right of publicity. Until we are given an opportunity to view the film, we hereby demand that all distribution and screenings... immediately be ceased."
