Bonnie Franklin - Bonnie Franklin Loses Cancer Battle At 69
Veteran actress Bonnie Franklin has lost her battle with pancreatic cancer.
The 69-year-old One Day at a Time star died in Los Angeles on Friday (01Mar13).
Franklin began her career at the tender age of nine after landing a role on U.S. Tv show The Colgate Comedy Hour. As a child, she also scored an uncredited appearance in Alfred Hitchcock's film The Wrong Man.
The actress went on to transition into theatre and rose to fame for her performance in a 1970 Broadway production of musical Applause, earning her a Tony Award nomination.
However, Franklin will perhaps be best remembered for her role as divorced mum Ann Romano on Tv sitcom One Day at a Time, which earned her two Golden Globe nominations and one Primetime Emmy nod in the 1980s.
She also made appearances on other popular shows The Man from U.N.C.L.E. and Gidget, and she even branched out as a director for several episodes of 1980s comedy Charles in Charge.
In more recent years, Franklin has guest starred on U.S. soap The Young and the Restless, while she reunited with her old One Day at a Time co-star Valerie Bertinelli in 2011 for her series Hot in Cleveland.
The actress went public with news about her cancer diagnosis in September (12), ironically on the same day as her final appearance on U.S. daytime soap The Young and the Restless.
Franklin was married to playwright Ronald Sossi for three years from 1967 and later wed film producer Marvin Minoff, who died in 2009. She had no children.
