U2 frontman Bono choked back tears during the band's emotion-charged headline performance at Britain's Glastonbury festival on Friday night (24Jun11).
The Beautiful Day hitmakers were forced to cancel their planned performance at the event last year (10) after the singer underwent surgery to his back.
They thrilled fans with a hits-packed set on Friday, and Bono welled up with emotion several times during the show, even having to break off from singing during the band's encore of With or Without You.
During their set, the singer treated the crowd to brief renditions of Primal Scream's Movin' on Up and Joy Division's Love Will Tear Us Apart, before leading the crowd in an a capella singalong of Coldplay's classic Yellow.
Before departing the stage, he told the crowd, "You have made our whole career. Thank you for the life you have given us."
Speaking after their set, Bono added, "I was very, very taken aback by the warmth of the crowd towards us."
Coldplay are due to headline Glastonbury on Saturday (25Jun11) and Beyonce will close the event on Sunday (26Jun11).
