Hit U.S. Tv drama Breaking Bad has been tapped for glory at the 2013 Writers Guild Awards after landing a whopping five nominations.

The series, which stars Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul, will go head to head with Boardwalk Empire, Game of Thrones, Homeland, and Mad Men for Best Drama when the honours are handed out on 17 February (13).

The remainder of the show's mentions were for singular outstanding episodes. The current season of Breaking Bad will be the drama's last.

Meanwhile, Modern Family, which earned a total of three nods, will duke it out with 30 Rock, Girls, Louie, and Parks and Recreation for the top prize in the Best Comedy category and writers Judd Apatow and Lena Dunham (Girls) will fight for the honour of Best New Series alongside the likes of Aaron Sorkin (The Newsroom) and Mindy Kalin (The Mindy Project).
