Ryan Gosling hit the headlines this week for his latest heroic act on the streets of New York City. Big Apple residents could be forgiven for assuming the Hollywood actor is in fact the caped crusader himself after saving another pedestrian from potential injury.
British journalist Laurie Penny set off the furore earlier this week after tweeting, "I literally, Literally just got saved from a car by Ryan Gosling. That actually just happened". After being hit by a storm of replies from followers enquiring as to the specifics of the incident, the writer added, "I was crossing 6th avenue in a new pink wig. Not looking the right way because I am from London. Ryan Gosling grabbed me away from a taxi". Later in the day, Penny spoke of being flooded with media requests for comments on the incident and appealed for people to let it go. Now, the journalist has penned an article for Gawker titled, "Ryan Gosling Saved Me From a Speeding Car But There's War In the Middle East So Everyone Calm Down", in which she suggests, "I am grateful to the dashing and meme-worthy Mr. Gosling, just as I am grateful to every other kind New Yorker who has saved me from oncoming traffic in recent weeks", before adding, "The real heroes I've met in America are risking everything to make sure that the United States doesn't slide further into bigotry, inequality and violence whilst everyone is distracted by the everyday doings of celebrities".
