Britney Spears has bought a new $8.5 million house in California.

'The X Factor' USA judge - who reportedly signed a $15 million contract to appear on the show - has splashed out on the five bedroom, seven bathroom house in Thousand Oaks, 40 miles outside downtown Los Angeles.

The 30-year-old singer is said to be keen for a more quiet life away from Hollywood with her fiance Jason Trawick and sons Sean Preston, seven, and Jayden James, six.

Among the features of the huge 8,456-square-foot property are a wine cellar, a home theatre and a massive infinity pool. Visitors will enter through lavish arched doorways and will have to be careful not to slip on the limestone floors as they go.

Once inside, Britney and Jason will be able to relax by the large stone fireplace while admiring the high beamed ceiling in their living room. Parking isn't likely to be a problem either, as the lavish property's garage can not only fit five cars, but also has space for golf cart storage - particularly handy as the home overlooks a Jack Nicklaus-designed course.

However, Britney is not moving home quite yet, as while she is still filming 'The X Factor', she stays in a plush hotel in Los Angeles.

The plans to relocate come at a tense time for Britney and her family, as her parents - Jamie and Lynne Spears - are being taken to court by her former manager, Sam Lutfi. He is suing them for breach of contract, libel and defamation, stemming from the time he managed their daughter, which included her public breakdown in 2008.

Jury selection in the trial is currently taking place, and Britney's lawyers are set to hit back at Sam's claims he tried to save her life and get her to rehab, with sources claiming they will try to prove he isolated the pop star from her family and was a bad influence.
