Broadway star Kevin Gray has died at the age of 55.
The actor/singer passed away on Monday (11Feb13) after suffering a heart attack, according to Broadway.com.
He was best known for playing the title role in the New York production of The Phantom of the Opera, and he also starred in shows including Miss Saigon, Jesus Christ Superstar, The King and I, and The Lion King.
Gray's death comes just weeks after he rejoined the Broadway cast of The Phantom of the Opera for the 25th anniversary performance last month (Jan13).
A statement posted on the show's official Facebook.com page reads, "We are truly saddened and shocked to have to report the passing of former Phantom star Kevin Gray. A former Raoul and Phantom, he was a beloved member of the Phantom family and the Broadway community. He suffered a sudden heart attack at only 55.
"All of our hearts, prayers and thoughts go out to his beautiful wife Dodie Pettit... They had just celebrated with us at the 25th Anniversary. He was a true talent, teacher and gentleman who will be sorely missed by all who knew him."
