Bruno Mars had been forced, alongside the rest of the music industry, to bow down to Adele at the weekend's Grammy Awards but the singer can certainly draw solace from the fact that his appearance at the event led to a bumper surge in sales to a back catalogue that wasn't exactly proving a hard-sell in the first place. It's early to tell exactly how many copies of his album 'Doo-Wops & Hooligans' have sold off the back of his performance at the Grammys, though early indications are good with it sitting back inside the Top 10 of the iTunes download charts within two days.
Certainly Mars impressed in front of the some of the biggest music stars in the world, performing an uplifting version of his hit 'Runaway' to an audience who certainly needed a smile after the sad news the day before of Whitney Houston's death. Mars, like so many others, paid tribute in his performance when shouting mid-song "Yo, tonight we celebrate. We celebrate the beautiful Miss Whitney Houston. Get off your rich asses and let's have fun!" reported MTV News.
Mars is by far the only one to profit from his appearance at the Grammys. The Los Angeles Times reports that it took just 60 seconds air time for folk group The Civil Wars to make a major impact on the iTunes charts this week, currently sitting at Number Five. The hits on their website meanwhile went up from an average 2000 a day to a whopping 20,000 on the Monday after the event. You don't even have to win to win.
