The third instalment of the Madagascar animation franchise (Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted) has stayed at the top of the US box office for the second week in a row. The family friendly film, featuring the voices of Chris Rock and Ben Stiller, staved off competition from Ridley Scott's Prometheus and the musical comedy Rock of Ages, starring Tom Cruise and Russell Brand.
'Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted' grossed $35.5 million in its second week, according to BBC News. Lagging behind in second was Scott's Prometheus, with $20.2 million. Rock of Ages debuted in third position. Adam Sandler's latest comedy vehicle debuted, but failed to make an impression, with a haul of just $13 million, a poor show for the big name Hollywood comedian. The sales for 'That's My Boy' were a fairly accurate reflection of the critics' opinions of the comedy. The movie's distributors Sony, are quoted by the BBC as saying "Sure, we would have liked to have done more. But you've got to hand it to Adam. He mixes it up. This is a really off-the-wall comedy."
Looking ahead to next week's box office statistics, the movie most likely to topple Madagascar 3 from the top spot is the new Pixar film, 'Brave.' The Guardian have tipped the new Pixar animation, describing it as "beautifully rendered and (it) appears to be anchored by a strong tale of self-determination." Pixar have a good track record behind them; it looks likely that they will continue to achieve their success.
