Carrey And Gyllenhaal To Remake Damn Yankeesby Contributor | 27 February 2009
A remake of a classic musical will be fronted by Jim Carrey and Jake Gyllenhaal.
New Line has signed up the stars for a modern version of musical DAMN YANKEES, which was originally staged in the 1950s.
A middle-aged baseball fan makes a deal with the devil, played by CARREY, so that his team will win the World Series.
The man is transformed into Joe Hardy, an expert batter played by GYLLENHAAL, at the potential cost of his soul.
Backing the movie will be the producers responsible for Hairspray, updating the original while retaining the spirit of the stage show.
TotalFilm states: "We hope for their sake the musical genre hasn't vanished back into the ether by the time the movie hoofs it on screen."
In other news, Malinda Williams, who starred alongside GYLLENHAAL in NAILED, tells Life and Style that she expects the Brokeback Mountain star to marry long-term girlfriend Reese Witherspoon soon.
