Cate Blanchett - Cate Blanchett Turns Heads With Sci-fi Oscars Dress
Cate Blanchett turned heads on the red carpet at Sunday's Academy Awards with an interesting gown that the UK's Metro newspaper described as bordering on "sci-fi".
Cate Blanchett, the Australian actress who won the Oscar for 'Best Supporting Actress' in 2004, wore a Givenchy Haute Couture dress to the ceremony on Sunday, which came in for both praise and severe criticism. The pastel lavender gown turned heads on the red-carpet, but bloggers and fashion journalists were split both ways. According to The Metro, the dress looked like "the back of a well upholstered chair" but also that it was an "edgy and fashion forward look that only someone as beautiful as Blanchett could carry off". The Washington Post was slightly less complimentary, including the actress in their 'Worst Dressed' section and describing the gown as a "homely concoction". The fashion website StyleBistro named Blanchett the evening's 'Best Dressed' and noted, "If anyone was going to pull off Givenchy spring couture, it was going to be Cate Blanchett. So imagine our delight when she stepped onto the red carpet at the Oscars wearing the pale lilac gown from the collection".
Cate Blanchett will soon begin filming the highly anticipated new Noah Baumbach movie 'While We're Young' about a documentary filmmaker and his wife who befriend a free-spirited couple. The movie also stars James Franco and Ben Stiller and is expected to hit cinemas in 2012.
