Cee Lo Green considered having his whole face tattooed.

The 37-year-old singer has a number of inkings on different places on his body and contemplated the "awesome" extreme art in order to make a "statement".

He said: "There was a time when I wanted to get my entire face done, just get something wild.

"I saw a guy recently and he had all sold black from the brown, down the middle of the nose, around the eyes and to the sides - it looked like a Roman fighting Helmet. It was so awesome.

"That is a commitment and it's a way to say I can truly take the pain. I mean, I got it, he's not a guy you want to get into a fistfight with. It's quite a statement."

Cee Lo insists not all of his tattoos were painful - but he abandoned a piece of artwork on his back because he felt out of control.

He explained to Q magazine: "The ones on my face are kind of small, so they got done quickly and it didn't hurt as much.

"I think the tree on my back gave me most pain. When you get your arms done... if you can see what's going on, then maybe, psychologically, you think you can control it. Apparently you can because it doesn't hurt as bad.

"With your back, you're lying on your front getting the Tattoo and you just feel totally out of control - you can't get gauge on when they're close to completion so I gave up on it an I have an unfinished tattoo on my back. It was meant to be a family tree, I haven't been in a rush to finish it."
