Oscar-winning British animator Bob Godfrey has died at the age of 91.

The artist's family revealed the sad news on Friday (22Feb13), although details about his passing have not yet been revealed.

The Australian-born Godfrey enjoyed a career spanning five decades and won critical acclaim for his animated shorts, including 1975's Great, a 25-minute comedy about the life of engineer Isambard Kingdom Brunei. The film earned him an Academy Award and made him the first British animator to win an Oscar.

However, he will perhaps be best remembered for his work on beloved cartoons Henry's Cat and Roobarb, a cat and dog series which was voiced by another Brit, actor Richard Briers, who died last weekend (17Feb13).

Godfrey, who also won three British Academy of Film and Television Arts awards for his work, completed his last animation, Millennium: The Musical, for U.K. Tv in 1999.
