A New York art dealer who cheated clients including Robert De Niro out of more than $100 million (£62.5 million) has been sentenced to six years behind bars.
Lawrence Salander, 61, pleaded guilty to 28 counts of grand larceny in March (10) after masterminding a massive fraud which saw him selling shares of the same artwork to multiple art lovers.
Salander, whose celebrity victims included De Niro and tennis legend John MCEnroe, was handed a six-year prison sentence by a judge in New York this week (beg02Aug) and he has been ordered to pay back $120 million (£80 million) to his victims as part of his plea deal.
Several works by De Niro's late father, Robert De Niro, Sr., were sold by executives at Salander's gallery without the Taxi Driver star's permission, while MCEnroe lost $2 million (£1.25 million) in the con after investing in two paintings.
Salander's attorney, Charles Ross, says, "He will pay his fines and his debt to society and will go on with his life."
