Charlie Sheen has reached out to the producers of American Idol to insist he is "genuinely interested" in taking up a spot on the judging panel.
TV bosses are currently looking for a new line-up following the departure of Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler, and Sheen's name was recently mentioned by producer Nigel Lythgoe as a possible replacement.
Sheen admits he is intrigued by the idea and is urging Idol executives to get in touch.
In a radio interview with American Idol host Ryan Seacrest on Tuesday (17Jul12), Sheen said, "It kind of came out of nowhere and I responded with a quote, just to sort of check the temperature of it or test the waters. Haven't heard anything back. I guess it got some people curious...
"It seems so out of the blue that it almost made perfect sense. I thought this could be a lot of fun... Seriously, tell him (Lythgoe) I'm genuinely interested. It's so different, it could be radical."
