South African actress Charlize Theron stole the show at the annual Gotham Independent Film Awards in New York on Monday (November 28, 2011), where she was honored with a special tribute prize alongside Gary Oldman and director David Cronenberg.
All eyes were on the Monster actress, who arrived at Cipriana, Wall Street, in a risque low-cut black and white halter-neck dress which was split at the navel, according to the UK's Metro newspaper. Charlize, 36, almost got off to the worst possible start when she almost fell over a light fixing upon entering the ceremony. The Oscar-winner, who is currently shooting Snow White and The Huntsmen, was more composed when she accepted a special tribute award at the film bash. It was eventful night at the Gotham Awards - an annual bash set up to highlight the year's best independent cinema and the first ceremony of the awards season. Terrence Malick's Palme d'Or winner 'The Tree of Life' was expected to be named Best Feature Film - which it was - but it had to share the award with the Ewan McGregor flick 'Beginners', also starring Christopher Plummer. The Mike Mills movie follows a young man who is rocked by two announcements from his elderly father - that he is gay and has terminal cancer.
Elsewhere at the Gotham Awards, British actress Felicity Jones walked away with the Breakthrough Actor award for her performance in 'Like Crazy', while 'Better This World' scooped 'Best Documentary'.
