Chastity Bono - Chaz Bono Speaks Out Against Dwts Critics
Chaz Bono has spoken out for the first time about the criticism he has received since signing up for the 13th season of hit ABC show Dancing With The Stars.
"It's made me realize I'm really glad I'm doing this, because America really needs to see this" he said according to Abc news. The transgender activist has been partnered with female professional dancer Lacey Schwimmer and has attracted criticism from fans and media groups with more traditional views. The 42-year-old has published a book called Transition which speaks about his experiences and believes his appearance on the show will help raise awareness of transgender issues "You know, it just kind of shows why for me it's important to be on the show, because so little still is known about what it means to be transgender," adding "there's so many just completely inaccurate stereotypes and thoughts that people have." The 13th season of Dancing With The Stars will see a variety of celebrities competing for the Mirror Ball trophy including actor David Arquette and Nba star Ron Artest.
Bono is the son of pop superstar Cher. He has been involved with showbiz since an early age when he appeared on his parent's variety show. As well as writing he has also released an album as a member of the band Ceremony, they released an album in 1993 entitled Hang Out Your Poetry.
