Chris Brown 's new single Turn Up The Music has knocked off Gotye 's Somebody That I Used To Know from the top spot, according to the radio show Big Top 40.

The R&B singer's new single was released on yesterday on March 25th (2012) and raced to the top of the charts on the same day, thereby ending Gotye's six week run at number one with his catchy Somebody That I Used To Know, which dropped to number four. Making the top three was Katy Perry 's Part of Me at number two and Sean Paul 's She Don't Mind at number three. Nicki Minaj 's Starships rounds out the top five.

Also appearing in the top ten was JLS ' new single, Proud, which is the official single for this year's Sport Relief.

Turn Up The Music has done well in other countries, making the top ten on the US Billboard Hot 100 and the ARIA Charts in Australia. The single is taken from Brown's forthcoming fifth studio album, Fortune, which will be released in May.

Since it launched in June 2009, the Big Top 40 show has become the UK's biggest national chart, averaging 2.5 million listeners every week across a range of radio stations. Every hour, the show reveals the top 10 positions and places the final 10 songs on lockdown between 6 and 7. It is the country's first ever real time chart and is broadcast across the country every Sunday from 4pm to 7pm.
