Chris Klein is ''grateful'' he got asked to star in 'American Reunion' after missing out on the third film in the franchise.

The 33-year-old actor is reprising his role of Chris Ostreicher in the fourth instalment of the movie series and he is looking forward to his character being involved again after starring in 'American Pie' and 'American Pie 2' in 1999 and 2001 respectively.

He said: ''Those kinds of decisions come way above my pay Grade. They decided to make 'American Wedding' a different way, and Oz and Heather's storyline was kind of played out. It is what it is, I'm just grateful to be invited to this one.''

Chris believes the 'American Pie' film franchise is ''unique'' because there is at least one character ''everyone'' can relate to.

In an interview with Den of Geek, he added: ''The universal themes of this movie are what make it attractive to everybody. People relate to these characters because they wouldn't ordinarily be in the same Friendship group and they all have their own part to play.

''There's a character for everyone to relate to in this movie; they either were or knew somebody that was like that. I think that's pretty unique to our franchise.''

'American Reunion' is released today (02.05.12).
