Prog-rock icons Chris Squire and Steve Hackett have joined forces to form a new superduo.
The Yes bassist and former Genesis guitarist Hackett will release their first album as Squackett this spring (12), and Squire insists their new music will surprise fans.
He tells Billboard.com, "Interestingly enough, I didn't really know much about Steve apart from the fact he was in Genesis until we got together in 2006 for the Chris Squire's Swiss Choir album.
"After that we started writing together, and then I realised Steve actually was a pretty good singer. Our voices blend really, really well, so there's quite a bit of Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young-type harmony stuff on the Squackett album as well as some pretty heavy-duty bass and guitar playing. It's a lot of good elements, and it sounds very good."
The duo is in talks to hit the road together later this year (12) and tour the album, and Squire adds, "We're going to have more than enough material for a good Squackett show. We'll base the tour around the album, of course, but we'll also be able to do things that haven't been done before.
"I'd be able to do (1975 solo album) Fish Out of Water material; it's never really been done live... (and) Steve wants to do some things he worked on as well."
