Christian Bale has visited Aurora, Denver, to meet with the survivors of the cinema shooting that occurred last Friday (July 20, 2012). The incident occurred during a special midnight screening of Dark Knight Rises (in which Bale stars as Batman). According to The Independent, Christian Bale gave little advance warning of his visit, during which he visited a makeshift memorial to those who died in the attack.
Bale also visited some of the survivors, as well as attending a luncheon that had been arranged to thank medical staff who helped the gunman's victims. Carey Rottman was one of the people injured in the shootings and has posted a picture of himself with Christian Bale, on his Facebook page. Janie Bowman-Hayes is the assistant vice president of surgical services at the Swedish Medical Centre and he said that staff members were not expecting Bale's attendance at the luncheon. "He just said he wanted to come to thank all of us because he has been thinking about this. He knows the whole world has been thinking about this. He took it upon himself to come and thank us."
Christian was joined by his wife, Sibi Blazic. They both attended the burgeoning memorial near to the cinema. He was left alone by other people visiting the memorial, to peruse it in peace. He had previously issued a statement to express his condolences to those involved. It said "Words cannot express the horror that I feel. I cannot begin to truly understand the pain and grief of the victims and their loved ones, but my heart goes out to them."
