Eric Clapton is hoping to raise hundreds of thousands of dollars for his rehab clinic by selling off dozens of his guitars and amplifiers.
The legendary rocker is putting more than 70 instruments up for auction, including one he played during the Cream reunion concerts in 2005 and a custom-built black Fender Eric Clapton Signature Stratocaster, which is expected to fetch up to $30,000 (£20,000).
The sale will also include 70 of his guitar amps, including a pair of 1970 Marshall vintage speaker cabinets, which the British musician used during his 1970s heyday with Derek And The Dominos. They are expected to sell for up to $10,000 (£6,000).
Clapton has sold his personal guitars for charity in the past, but it's the first time he has auctioned off amps.
Money from the sale, at Bonhams in New York in March (11), will go to The Crossroads Centre in Antigua. Other lots in the auction include guitars donated by Jeff Beck, JJ Cale, and Joe Bonamassa.
Clapton says, "I am very happy that Bonhams have agreed to host my third guitar auction in aid of The Crossroads Centre, Antigua, the drug and alcohol rehabilitation centre I founded in 1998."
