Clarence Clemons, the E Street Band saxophone player who passed away on Saturday (19th June 2011) has received a touching tribute from his close friend Bruce Springsteen. Clarence Clemons died after he suffered complications from a stroke he suffered one week earlier.
The 69-year-old, often referred to as Springsteen's 'right hand man', had also suffered from serious knee and back problems in recent years. Following spinal fusion surgery, he relied on the aid of a cane and crutches to walk properly. Springsteen, who last played live with Clarence in December 2010, took to his official website to speak of his friend's enduring legacy, saying, "Clarence lived a wonderful life. He carried within him a love of people that made them love him. He created a wondrous and extended family. He loved the saxophone, loved our fans and gave everything he had every night he stepped on stage". Springsteen went on to add, "His loss is immeasurable and we are honored and thankful to have known him and had the opportunity to stand beside him for nearly forty years. He was my great friend, my partner, and with Clarence at my side, my band and I were able to tell a story far deeper than those simply contained in our music". A recognisable figure in the world of music, Clemons recently featured on two Lady GaGa songs and performed with the pop-star during her appearance on American Idol last month.
Clarence Clemons is survived by his fifth wife Victoria, and his four sons Clarence Jr, Charles, Christopher and Jared.
