Cleese Pays $4,950 For Taxi To Avoid Volcano Travel Chaos
John Cleese refused to let a volcanic eruption in Iceland disrupt his busy schedule - the actor paid $4,950 (£3,300) for a taxi to take him from Norway to Belgium after his plane was grounded.
The funnyman was in Norway for an appearance on a talk show earlier this week (begs12Apr10) and was due to fly home to England after his TV spot.
However, he was unable to catch a flight to the U.K. as nearly all air services in Europe have been cancelled because of a heavy cloud of volcanic ash floating in the skies above.
But Cleese didn't let this spoil his plans - he paid $4,950 for a taxi to take him from Norway's capital Oslo to Brussels in Belgium so he could catch the Eurostar train back to London.
He says, "We checked every option but there were no boats and no train tickets available. That's when my fabulous assistant determined the easiest thing would be to take a taxi."
