George Clooney - Clooney's Organisation Launches Sudan Satellite Border Watch
Officials at George Clooney's anti-genocide awareness organisation Not On Our Watch have joined forces with Google boffins to launch a satellite border watch of the area that splits north and south Sudan ahead of the nation's vote for separation next month (Jan10).
Following a recent trip to the war-torn African nation, Clooney warned of civil war after the south votes in a secession referendum.
He lobbied U.S. politicians to do what they could to prevent unrest in Sudan, but the movie star fears the worst as the big vote approaches.
However, his Not On Our Watch partners are keen for the world to see what's going on at the border in the coming weeks and they've teamed up with Google for the Satellite Sentinel Project, which will collect imagery and help campaigners further fight for Sudan support.
Clooney says, "We want to let potential perpetrators of genocide and other war crimes know that we're watching, the world is watching. War criminals thrive in the dark. It's a lot harder to commit mass atrocities in the glare of the media spotlight."
Southern Sudan's independence referendum takes place on 9 January (11).
