Coldplay - Coldplay's Album Art Sells For $800,000
British rockers Coldplay have raised more than $800,000 (£500,000) for charity by selling off a graffiti-covered wall which featured on the sleeve of their album Mylo Xyloto.
The musicians displayed the large piece, a collaboration with street artist Paris, at Proud Galleries in London ahead of an auction in aid of Kids Company, a charity which helps at-risk children in the U.K. capital.
The huge artwork sold to an anonymous bidder from the Far East for $800,000 on Monday (03Dec12), while other art works by the band and behind-the-scenes photographs from their life on the road raised another $176,00 (£110,000), taking the total to $967,000 (£610,000).
A post on the band's Twitter.com page reads, "Take a bow Coldplay fans. An incredible £610,000 raised so far from the Mylo art sale."
Frontman Chris Martin will be doing more for charity this month (Dec12) by taking part in a New York City gig to raise money for victims of superstorm Sandy.
The singer has been added to the line-up of the 12-12-12 gig at Madison Square Garden alongside Bon Jovi, Dave Grohl, Billy Joel, Alicia Keys and Bruce Springsteen.
