Columbia Records is set to be the official music partner of Twentieth Century Fox's new musical comedy series GLEE.

Under the terms of the deal, Columbia will release music from the show on iTunes and other digital platforms, as well as in the shops.

GLEE is the latest endeavour for NIP/TUCK creator RYAN MURPHY and focuses on the exploits of a high school singing club, with a cast made up of both stage and screen stars.

Each episode features an array of hits from a multitude of genres and eras, including pop, country, Broadway and rock and roll.

"GLEE is a smart and challenging yet totally mainstream platform for the most innovative use of classic and contemporary pop seen on television," said Rob Stringer, chairman of Columbia/Epic Label Group.

"We are thrilled we have the opportunity to be partners on the show's musical journey!"
GLEE will be previewed in the US on May 19th, following the series finale of American Idol.

The show has already garnered praise from reviewers, with Entertainment Weekly calling the cast "excellent" and the Los Angeles Times praising its "light-hearted satire".
