Russell Brand's upcoming U.K. supergig in aid of addiction charities will be dedicated to late singer Amy Winehouse.
The funnyman and former drug addict has lined up music acts including Noel Gallagher, Paloma Faith and Kasabian to perform at the Give It Up for Comic Relief show in March (13), and he has now revealed he was prompted to organise the event by Winehouse's 2011 death from alcohol poisoning.
Money raised from ticket sales will go to organisations which help drug addicts and alcoholics get clean, and Brand will make sure the Back to Black hitmaker is remembered during the show.
Video footage of Brand and Winehouse talking about addiction will be shown during the concert, and the funnyman hopes some of the musicians will cover his friend's most famous songs.
He tells Britain's The Sun newspaper, "At the gig in March we will recognise that addiction is a disease that when correctly treated can be arrested. The money raised by this gig will help alcoholics and addicts get clean and stay clean... The impetus was Amy Winehouse's death... There will be a Vt (video shown) on the day of Amy and I... I would like some people to cover Amy's stuff."
Give It Up for Comic Relief will take place at London's Wembley Arena on 6 March (13), and other performers include Jessie J, Rizzle Kicks, Emeli Sande and Nicole Scherzinger. The event will also feature some of Britain and Ireland's top comedians.
