British comedian Simon Brodkin has been charged with encroaching on a soccer pitch after he allegedly joined players on a ground in Liverpool, England on Saturday (16Mar13).

The 35-year-old funnyman, best known in his native U.K. for his streetwise alter ego Lee Nelson, is accused of sneaking onto the grass at the home of Everton United as the club's teammates were warming up for their match against rivals Manchester City.

Brodkin was allegedly spotted by security wearing a Manchester City kit before he was dragged off and arrested by police.

He has now been charged with pitch encroachment, a law introduced under Britain's Football Offences Act.

Brodkin will appear before the Liverpool Community Justice Centre on 3 April (13).

The incident did not affect the game for Everton - they went on to triumph with a 2-0 victory.
