New British movie Control has received a record-breaking ten nominations at the British Independent Film Awards.

The Anton de Corbijn movie, a biopic of the late Joy Division singer Ian Curtis, was recognised across the board, with nominations for cast and crew.

Lead actor Sam Riley, in his first major acting role after abandoning a career as frontman of Leeds indie band 10,000 Things, has been nominated for the best actor prize, while acclaimed British actress Samantha Morton has received a best supporting actress nod for her portrayal of Curtis' late wife Deborah.

The film explores the life of young benefits officer Ian Curtis who finds his calling as the frontman of up-and-coming band Joy Division, but after being diagnosed with epilepsy shortly after his marriage to Deborah, finds the combination of his illness, touring and fame too hard to bear.

Screenwriter Matt Greenhalgh was nominated for his screenplay - based on Deborah Curtis' book Touching from a Distance - while renowned photographer Anton Corbijn was named in the best director category for his debut film, as well as being nominated for the Douglas Hickox award for best debut director.

The movie also received nominations for best achievement in production and best technical achievement in cinematography, while Toby Kebbell - who plays late Joy Division and New Order manager Rob Gretton - was nominated for the best supporting actor award.
