Ween rocker Mickey Melchiondo has been left stunned by band co-founder Aaron Freeman's decision to split from the cult group after more than 25 years.
Melchiondo and Freeman founded Ween in 1984 and adopted the alter egos Dean and Gene.
The group released a total of 11 studio albums and their last single, DC Won't Do You No Good, was released in 2010, but the rockers' future has been in doubt for the past year after singer Freeman suffered a meltdown onstage in Vancouver, Canada.
And, in a new Rolling Stone interview, he insists Ween is calling it quits, stating, "It’s time to move on. I’m retiring Gene Ween. It’s been a long time, 25 years. It was a good run."
But it appears he didn't notify bandmate Melchiondo of his break-up plans.
Taking to Facebook.com, the stunned guitarist writes, "This is news to me... (That's) all I can say for now I guess."
