Dave Grohl has ''big plans'' for the next Foo Fighters album.

The 44-year-old rocker is excited about starting the follow-up to 2011's 'Wasting Light' once his commitments with documentary 'Sound City' come to an end.

He told MTV News: ''We have a plan, we know exactly what's coming next, and I have the music for the next record and we're going to start working on it once we finish doing all this stuff.

''And we have really awesome, big plans for the next album, and I'm really excited about it''

However, the 'Best of You' rock star isn't working to a set schedule to get the album completed.

He joked: ''If I give you something now [about a release date], it means I'll actually have to make that deadline.''

Dave is currently promoting his 'Sound City' documentary - about the studio of the same name in California - and the rest of Foo Fighters joined him in Utah at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival last Friday (18.01.13) as members of the 'Sound City Players', a supergroup which performed at the event.

Dave explained: ''It's funny, we don't really consider this the Foo Fighters. we're Rick Springfield's backing band, we're John Fogerty's backing band.

''We're not up there playing 'Everlong' every night, we're just hoping our heroes get up on stage and play.''
