David Beckham insists he and wife Victoria never plan to coordinate their outfits.

The soccer star and his singer-turned-fashion designer spouse are often voted one of the world's most stylish couples but David claims a lot of the time it's a coincidence that they match.

He said: "Victoria looks good in anything. People always ask if we combine our clothes but sometimes One Of Us will be ready downstairs and the other will come down and we'll have the same colour or type of outfit, which is just coincidence most of the time."

However, while he is happy with most of their fashion choices, the 35-year-old sportsman says there's been times it hasn't always been such a good idea, especially when they wore matching leather outfits to a party in 1999.

He added in a live online chat with Yahoo!: "There's a couple of instances we regret, like when we both wore leather trousers and a jacket. Victoria looked good but together I look back and think it was a bit much."

David - who has three children, Brooklyn, 11, Romeo, seven, and five-year-old Cruz with the former Spice Girl - says clothes have always been a passion of his, even when he was very young.

He said: "I've always loved clothes, I've always liked to dress nice and wear suits - my middle son Romeo is exactly the same as I was. When I was his age I was pageboy for a friend's wedding and they asked if I wanted to wear a suit or white knickerbockers things with ballerina slippers - and I chose that!"
