Rocker David Bowie has topped the U.K. album charts for the first time in 20 years following the release of his hit record The Next Day.

The last Bowie album to achieve the same level of success was 1993's Black Tie White Noise.

Bon Jovi's What About Now debuted at number two, and dropping to three was Emeli Sande's Our Version of Events. Bad Blood by Bastille fell to four and rounding out the top five was Bruno Mars' Unorthodox Jukebox.

In the U.K. singles chart, Justin Timberlake's Mirrors remained in first place, while One Direction's Comedy Relief charity track One Way Or Another (Teenage Kicks) rose to two.

In third was Just Give Me A Reason by Pink and Nate Ruess, When I Was Your Man by Bruno Mars came in fourth, and Pompeii by Bastille was at five.
