Former Talking Heads star David Byrne has settled his copyright battle with former Florida Governor Charlie Crist.
The rocker filed a $1 million (£625,000) lawsuit against the politician last year (10) after Crist used his song Road To Nowhere in a campaign ad without permission.
Byrne, who has never licensed his songs for commercials, claimed the former Governor wrecked his reputation by using the track and implying he endorsed his candidacy.
The pair met in court in Tampa, Florida last week (ends10Apr11) and the case has now been settled confidentially.
Byrne is pleased he opted to wage the costly copyright battle against Crist, insisting he hopes that by "standing up to this practice" he can make it a "less common option".
In a statement, he says, "It turns out I am one of the few artists who has the bucks and (guts) to challenge such usage. I'm feeling very manly after my trip to Tampa!
"Other artists may actually have the anger but not want to take the time and risk the legal bills. I am lucky that I can do that. Anyway, my hope is that by standing up to this practice maybe it can be made to be a less common option, or better yet an option that is never taken in the future."
Speaking to the Miami Herald, Crist says of Byrne, "He's a wonderful guy. A very kind man. I really have great respect for him. He's an incredible artist. We had a good interaction last week and a nice settlement. And I'm very pleased."
