Award-winning writer RUSSELL T. DAVIES is eager to quit legendary British sci-fi show DR. WHO - because he's sick of writing for such a big budget franchise. The Welsh-born television producer and writer admits he's desperate to switch to a less demanding project once he leaves the popular TV series. Davies says, "I can't carry on like this for ever. "The only place for me to go from here is back to six-parters or one-offs that won't have the publicity, the merchandise, the budget, the profile. And I'm so looking forward to it." His fourth season with the show starts this spring (08) and 2009 will be what Davies calls a "gap year" with only three one-hour Dr Who specials. The BBC has announced a full fifth series of the show for 2010 - although Davies and actor David Tennant have yet to sign up for it.
