Demi Moore was rushed to hospital in Los Angeles late on Monday evening (23 January 2012) after a 911 call was placed from her home at around 10.45pm. According to Tmz.com, paramedics responded to the actress' home near Benedict Canyon and transported her to hospital after a half-hour assessment.
Moore is being placed in a separate facility where she intends "to seek further professional assistance", with Tmz reporting that the treatment is for substance abuse. According to Moore's representative, the Margin Call star is seeking to "improve her overall health", and a statement read, "Because of the stresses in her life right now, Demi has chosen to seek professional assistance to treat her exhaustion and improve her overall health. She looks forward to getting well and is grateful for the support of her family and friends". Demi has been photographed looking tired and frail since announcing her divorce from actor Ashton Kutcher last year, following reports of his infidelity. During a recent interview with Harper's Bazaar, the actress discussed her fears and stresses, saying, "What scares me the most is not knowing and accepting that just about everything is not in my control...That makes me feel unsafe". Around the time of her hospitalization, Moore's estranged husband was posting pictures of himself fooling around in Brazil, telling followers, "Surfing the streets of Sao Paulo". He later uploaded an image of himself drinking a cocktail from a coconut, writing, "Roughing it".
The hospitalization comes shortly after it appeared Demi was ready to get her career back-on-track. She had signed on to play the feminist and activist Gloria Steinem in the upcoming biopic of adult star Linda Lovelace, and received strong reviews for her portrayal of a Wall Street banker in Margin Call.
