Depeche Mode are appealing to Brit Awards bosses to recognise them in the lifetime achievement category after years of going home empty-handed.

The electronic act formed in 1980, but has only received one honour at the annual ceremony - 1991's Best British single for Enjoy the Silence.

Co-founder Andy Fletcher admits the trio is upset about the apparent snub and insists many previous winners agree.

He tells Britain's Daily Star newspaper, "We'd like to be offered, though whether we'd accept it is another thing...

"Quite a lot of people who previously won it said we should've got it. I don't know why we don't get considered. But we have a lot of fans here still, so we can't complain too much."

Sir Paul MCCartney, Paul Weller, Bob Geldof and Duran Duran have previously landed the top honour, which was handed to Blur last year (12). This year's (13) ceremony takes place in London on 20 February (13) and the nominations will be revealed on Thursday (10Jan13).
