Development Work Halted On Next Bond Flick
With MGM facing the possibility of bankruptcy now that efforts to sell the studio have apparently come to naught, the producers of the James_bond">James Bond movies, arguably MGM's most bankable asset, announced Monday that they have suspended development of the next Bond flick, No. 23. In a statement, producers Michael Wilson and Barbara Broccoli blamed "the continuing uncertainty surrounding the future of MGM and the failure to close a sale of the studio." Earlier reports had said that the movie, reportedly a sequel to Quantum of Silence and again starring Daniel Craig, was being developed by the two producers with Sam Mendes, who was expected to direct it. Initial reports had indicated that the studio had planned to release the film in 2012 to mark the 50th anniversary of the franchise (1962's Dr. No , starring Sean Connery as Bond and Ursula Andress as Honey, the first Bond Girl).
