DISH Network has made a series of tweaks to its Hopper digital video recorders that allow subscribers to skip commercials a day after programs are recorded. Among them Users may now select which channels to record instead of merely recording every program on the air; they may now delete programs at a time that they choose; and the cursor now defaults to "no" instead of "yes" after subscribers are asked whether they want to skip ads. Reporting on The Changes, Daily Variety commented today (Thursday) "While the changes may seem minor, they seem to represent a calculated strategy on Dish's behalf to shift responsibility to viewers for the recording and ad-skipping rather than let them passively receive these features."
