The Walt Disney Co. may be having second thoughts about offering shows from its TV sites like ABC, Disney Channel, and ESPN and movies from its film studios on super sites such as Hulu and Apple's iTunes Store. The Los Angeles Times reported today (Friday) that Disney CEO Robert Iger wants to transform Disney.com into a kind of super store in its own right that would offer its movies, TV episodes and games. In an interview with the newspaper at the All Things Digital conference in Rancho Palos Verdes on Thursday, Iger said, "People go to Disney because they know its brand attributes. We believe we have an opportunity to go with our content directly to consumers." While noting that the Internet opens up new opportunities for Disney to monetize its content, its traditional businesses will continue to produce the largest share of its revenue. Noting that the latest Pirates Of The Caribbean has earned nearly $700 million in two weeks, Iger said, "It's tough to monetize that fast on digital platforms today."
