Folk singer Doc Watson remains in critical condition after undergoing colon surgery on Thursday night (24May12).
The blind singer was admitted to the Watuga Medical Center in North Carolina to treat an infection on Monday (21May12) after suffering a fall at his home.
On Thursday, he was transferred to the intensive care unit at nearby Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, where he underwent an operation on his colon, and now bosses at his music agency Folklore Productions reveal the star's health is slowly improving.
Watson's manager Mitchell Greenhill declined to elaborate on the 89 year old's status, only telling local reporters the star "came through it (surgery) OK".
According to a hospital spokesperson, Watson was still listed in critical condition as of Friday morning (25May12).
The celebrated musician has received several top honours, including a Grammy lifetime achievement award in 2004 and the North Carolina Award in 1986 - the state's highest civilian prize.
