Acclaimed filmmaker Les Blank has died after a battle with bladder cancer. He was 77.

He also turned his attention towards food and drink in releases such as Garlic is as Good as 10 Mothers, and Yum Yum Yum!, about Cajun and Creole dishes.

Blank was the recipient of lifetime achievement awards from the American Film Institute and the International Documentary Association, while two of his films have been chosen for the U.S. National Film Registry.

He is survived by his sons Harrod and Beau Blank, his daughter Ferris Robinson, and three grandkids.
