Pussy Riot - Documentary About Jailed Russian Punk Rockers To Debut At Sundance

A documentary film about the plight of Russian punk band Pussy Riot is set to premiere at the Sundance Film Festival in Utah next year (13).

The feminist group hit headlines earlier this year (12) when members Nadezhda Tolokonnikova, Maria Alekhina and Yekaterina Samutsevich were tried on charges of hooliganism for performing a protest song in a Moscow church in February (12).

They were found guilty and jailed for two years in August (12). Samutsevich was later freed on appeal, but the remaining two are serving out their sentences at remote labour camps in the former Soviet Union.

Now the rockers, who have received international support from politicians and celebrities including Madonna, Sir Paul MCCartney, Bjork and Sting, have become the subject of Mike Lerner and Maxim Pozdorovkin's new film Pussy Riot - A Punk Prayer.

The documentary chronicles the trio's arrest and conviction. It will be screened for the first time at the Sundance Film Festival in January (13).

Meanwhile, the members of Pussy Riot have been shortlisted for Time magazine's Influential Person of the Year Award. The winner will be chosen by publication editors and unveiled on 14 December (12).
