Cold Chisel rocker Don Walker was left stunned when he received one of the band's new tracks back from U.S. producers, because it featured late bandmate Steve Prestwich's vocals.
The Aussie group reunited when drummer Prestwich passed away two days after undergoing emergency surgery on a brain tumour last year (11).
Bandmates Walker, Ian Moss, Phil Small, Jimmy Barnes and replacement percussionist Charley Drayton heading into the studio to work on new material, and sent off their new tracks to an American sound engineer along with Prestwich's song I Got Things To Do.
And the rockers were overwhelmed with emotional when they got the finished work back, because their late pal had laid down a guide vocal for Barnes on the song.
Walker tells Australia's Courier-Mail, "In retrospect it's no surprise that Steve would have laid down a guide vocal. When he presented songs and we did demos of them, he sang most of them as a guide for Jim or Ian to learn the song.
"We forgot all about that and sent the track over to (U.S.-based recording engineer) Kevin Shirley to mix, along with a lot of other stuff. With the time differences he would be sending back mixes that would arrive in the middle of the night.
"You would sit down and press the button to play the mix and suddenly there is Steve singing. It was a moment... when things get personal."
