Donald Sutherland has joined the cast of the forthcoming SKY1 adventure movie 'Treasure Island'.
DONALD SUTHERLAND, the American actor and father of '24' star Kiefer Sutherland, has signed up to play a pirate in the upcoming movie 'Treasure Island', according to the Hollywood Reporter.In the new adaptation of the classic ROBERT LOUIS STEVENSON novel, British comedian Eddie Izzard will take on the role of 'Long John Silver', while 'Lord of the Rings' actor Elijah Wood will play 'Benn Gunn'. Sutherland, who was honoured with a star on the Hollywood 'Walk of Fame' last week, will play 'Flint'. Shooting has already begun in Puerto Rico and Island and the movie is expected to be released in two parts, with the first film hitting screens in 2012. In a statement, RHI Entertainment Executive Robert Halmi Sr said, "Treasure Island is one of the greatest tales in all of literature. We have retained the adrenaline-charged atmosphere and action from the original work, while adding an edgier, darker tone that will resonate with contemporary audiences".
The film will also star PHILLIP GLENISTER, RUPERT-PENRY JONES, DAVID HAREWOOD and KEITH ALLEN.
